GC wins Best Practice Case 2025 award, further leveraging intellectual property and reinforcing Thai innovation that adds value to agricultural waste, leading to green technology of the future

23 Jul 2026

PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC) received the BRIPC Best Practice Case in Intellectual Property 2025 award from the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) under the Belt and Road Intellectual Property Cooperation (BRIPC) project. This award recognizes organizations that have successfully leveraged intellectual property to create tangible value for business, society, and the environment.

GC received an award for commercializing its patented technology, serving as a model of green technology that supports the circular economy, sustainable development, and international innovation collaboration. The selected work is the patent "Improved Muconic Acid Production from Genetically Engineered Microorganisms," which is protected in multiple countries worldwide. This technology enhances the production efficiency of bio-muconic acid, a key bio-based raw material for the production of future materials such as bio-based nylon 6,6. It reduces reliance on fossil fuels and is a significant innovation by GC in driving the circular economy.

GC has further leveraged this technology in collaboration with Toray Industries, Inc. of Japan to develop bio-based Adipic Acid. By combining GC's bio-fermentation technology with Toray's processing expertise, they have successfully developed bio-based Nylon 6,6 at a pre-commercial scale, reflecting the potential of leveraging intellectual property to create value and develop practical applications.

The BRIPC Best Practice Case in Intellectual Property Award recognizes outstanding intellectual property achievements from partner countries in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). By 2025, only 10–20 projects worldwide will be selected, based on their technological excellence, commercialization, economic, social, and environmental impact, and their promotion of international intellectual property cooperation.

This achievement underscores GC's capability to leverage intellectual property into value-added business innovations, driving green technology and low-carbon industries through collaboration with global partners to create sustainable long-term growth.
