Algeria will host the 2nd Forum of Research, Development and Innovation Centers of the Member Countries of the African Petroleum Exporting Countries Organization (APPO) from April 20 to 23, 2025, bringing together decision-makers, experts, researchers and key players in the energy industry.
This event was enhanced by the presence of the Minister of State, Minister of Energy and Mines, Mr. Mohamed ARKAB, the Secretary General of APPO, Dr. Omar Farouk IBRAHIM and the Chairman and CEO of the SONATRACH Group, Mr. Rachid HACHICHI.
Organized under the banner of innovation and cooperation, this forum aims to strengthen the technological capacities of member countries and lay the foundations for stronger collaboration for responsible, efficient and sustainable exploitation of African hydrocarbon resources.
At the heart of the priorities of this event are the promotion of the sharing
of best practices, the establishment of synergies between actors in the oil and gas sector and the creation of true centers of technological and scientific excellence within APPO member countries on the African continent.
Three priority areas are highlighted:
• The development of technologies adapted to the realities of the continent;
• The strengthening of local skills through knowledge management and the transfer of knowledge and know-how;
• The integration of environmental requirements into operating strategies.
At this event, the Angolan company SONANGOL transferred the presidency of the Forum of Research, Development and Innovation Centers of the Member Countries of the African Petroleum Exporting Countries Organization (APPO) to SONATRACH, represented by its Central Directorate for Research and Development.
With more than 60 years of expertise in the field, Algeria is multiplying initiatives to become a driving force of innovation in Africa. Through its national company SONATRACH, the country has deployed an ambitious R&D strategy that has already generated some thirty patents in three years.
This forum thus marks an important step towards the creation of joint R&D programs between member countries, supported by a bank dedicated to financing technological projects.
The organizers welcome the strong participation of African and international experts, demonstrating a collective dynamic to position the continent as a leader in applied research in the field of Oil & Gas.
