This week, HDPE spot prices marched higher, while contract prices were left unchanged across European markets.
An industry source in Europe, on condition of anonymity, informed a Polymerupdate team member, "The European HDPE spot market strengthened as rising ethylene values and a higher monthly feedstock settlement increased cost pressure on suppliers. Sellers responded with firmer offers, while buyers covering short-term requirements had limited room to negotiate lower prices. Spot material also became more costly to replace, providing further support to the market. Contract prices, however, remained mostly unchanged, as regular supply commitments and slow summer demand kept negotiations balanced. Stronger raw material costs therefore had a greater impact on spot prices than on the contract market.”
