Propylene prices tumble in Asia amid cautious procurement activity
Last week, propylene prices plunged in the Asian region.
An industry source in Asia informed a Polymerupdate team member, “Propylene prices fell sharply during the week, pressured by lower upstream energy prices that weakened production cost support and weighed on market sentiment. Demand from downstream sectors remained subdued, limiting spot buying interest and overall trading activity. Meanwhile, ample product availability across the region ensured comfortable supply conditions, preventing any meaningful price support. Most buyers continued to procure on a need-based basis, anticipating further declines in the near term. The combination of weaker upstream markets, ample supply, and cautious purchasing patterns contributed to the downward trend in the propylene market.”
FOB Korea propylene prices were assessed at USD 935-945/mt levels, a week-on-week tumble of USD (-140/mt).
CFR China propylene prices were assessed at USD 965-975/mt levels, a steep drop of USD (-135/mt) from the previous week.
CFR Taiwan propylene prices were assessed at USD 970-980/mt levels, a week-on-week tumble of USD (-135/mt).
CFR Southeast Asia propylene prices were assessed at USD 985-995/mt levels, a sharp fall of USD (-180/mt) from the previous week.
