Low density polyethylene (LDPE) prices in Asia rise amid strong seller offers

08 Apr 2026 15:30 IST
This week, LDPE prices spiked in some parts of Asia, while they remained steady in Southeast Asia and India.

An industry source in Asia, on condition of anonymity, informed a Polymerupdate team member, "LDPE prices in Asia firmed as sellers maintained higher offer levels, despite resistance from buyers, which created a gap between bids and offers, limiting trade volumes. Easing tensions in the Middle East, including a two-week ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran, along with improved confidence around the Strait of Hormuz, led to a decline in crude oil prices, reducing upstream cost support and shifting market sentiment to bearish. Downstream buyers remained cautious, limiting purchases to immediate needs and securing materials at lower price levels. Additionally, the Indian government’s decision to cut import duties to zero on key petrochemicals, effective April 2, 2026, for three months, has further encouraged buying at reduced levels. Overall, trading activity remained weak, with most deals concluded through negotiations at softer prices.”
