Low density polyethylene (LDPE) prices in India soar approximately 75% since start of West Asia crisis

01 Apr 2026 15:00 IST
This week, LDPE prices in Asia surged amid logistical bottlenecks and rising cost pressures.

An industry source in Asia, on condition of anonymity, informed a Polymerupdate team member, "The rise in Asian LDPE prices has been driven primarily by supply concerns and higher production costs. Ongoing tensions in the Middle East, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, have raised fears of disruption, keeping availability tight. Elevated upstream energy and ethylene feedstock prices further increased production costs, supporting higher seller offers. Although China’s re-exports eased some supply, delayed shipments and logistical issues continued to constrain overall availability. Buyers remained cautious, purchasing only as needed, but the combination of tight supply and high costs kept LDPE prices elevated.”

In India, LDPE Film grade prices were assessed at USD 1680-1750/mt CFR levels, a spike of USD (+30/+50/mt) from last week.

A domestic industry source informed a Polymerupdate team member, "Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has raised LDPE prices by Rs.5/kg basic, with effect from April 1, 2026.”

In Far East Asia, LDPE Film grade prices were assessed at USD 1390-1500/mt CFR levels, week-on-week sharply higher by USD (+50/mt).

In South East Asia, LDPE Film grade prices were assessed at USD 1600-1790/mt CFR levels, a hike of USD (+50/+90/mt) from the previous week.

In Pakistan, LDPE Film grade prices were assessed at USD 1570-1650/mt CFR levels, a week-on-week spike of USD (+50/mt).

In Sri Lanka, LDPE Film grade prices were assessed at USD 1650-1780/mt CFR levels, steeply increased by USD (+80/+90/mt) from the previous week.

In Bangladesh, LDPE Film grade prices were assessed at USD 1650-1730/mt CFR levels, a spike of USD (+80/mt) from last week.
