Polypropylene (PP) spot prices climb in Europe

07 Feb 2025 14:30 IST

This week, PP spot prices trended higher in the European region.

An industry source in Europe informed a Polymerupdate team member, "Shipment delays and a significant spike in feedstock propylene contract prices caused disruptions in the European polypropylene market towards the beginning of February. Market activity was comparatively quiet after the price settlement, with restocking efforts not living up to expectations. Many participants were seen retreating to the sidelines, while remaining focused on assessing the settlement impact. Meanwhile, import constraints brought on by high freight costs and the slowdown in Asia after the Lunar New Year forced European consumers to source their supply requirements from domestic markets.”

The source added, "The general February outlook appears bleak, with no indications of a demand recovery. While buyers find it difficult to obtain imported material, converters are holding onto their current contract levels. In the meantime, domestic supply is still plentiful, with customers having steady access to material amid minor logistical issues.”

In the spot markets, PP injection moulding grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1145-1155/mt FD North West Europe mark, while PP block copolymer grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1205-1215/mt FD Northwest Europe levels, both rising by Euro (+15/mt) from the previous week.

Meanwhile in the contract markets, PP injection moulding grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1490-1495/mt FD NWE Germany and FD NWE France levels, both steady from last week. PP injection moulding grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1480-1485/mt FD NWE Italy levels, stable week on week. Meanwhile, PP injection moulding grade prices were assessed at the GBP 1240-1245/mt FD NWE UK levels, a drop of GBP (-10/mt) from the previous week.

PP block copolymer grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1550-1555/mt FD NWE Italy levels, rolled over from last week.
