This week, HDPE spot grade prices climbed in Europe.
A European industry source while requesting to remain unidentified informed a Polymerupdate team member, “Prices gained in the European High density polyethylene (HDPE) markets owing to supply constraints. HDPE grade supplies further tightened over the week on the back of reduced import volumes from the Middle East, stemming from production issues in the region. Curtailed output rates from European producers also weighed on the supply situation. A few market observers pointed to restocking activity ahead of the impending seasonal turnaround in the upstream ethylene markets as a key driver for the strengthened interest in making material purchases.”
HDPE film grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1185-1195/mt FD North West Europe levels, while HDPE BM grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1185-1195/mt FD North West Europe levels, both rising by Euro (+10/mt) from the previous week. HDPE injection grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1165-1175/mt FD North West Europe Levels, a gain of Euro (+10/mt) from last week.
In the contract markets, HDPE film grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1550-1555/mt FD NWE Germany and FD NWE Italy levels, both unchanged from last week. HDPE film grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1550-1555/mt FD NWE France levels, steady week on week. Meanwhile, HDPE film grade prices were assessed at the GBP 1305-1310/mt FD NWE UK levels, a marginal rise of GBP (+5/mt) from the previous week.
In the contract markets, HDPE BM grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1530-1535/mt FD NWE Germany and FD NWE Italy levels, both rolled over week on week. HDPE BM grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1530-1535/mt FD NWE France levels, left unchanged from last week. Meanwhile, HDPE BM grade prices were assessed at the GBP 1290-1295/mt FD NWE UK levels, a marginal gain of GBP (+5/mt) from the previous week.
In the contract markets, HDPE injection grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1480-1485/mt FD NWE Germany and FD NWE Italy levels, both remaining steady from the previous week. HDPE injection grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1490-1495/mt FD NWE France levels, stable from last week. Meanwhile, HDPE injection grade prices were assessed at the GBP 1240-1245/mt FD NWE UK levels, marginally up GBP (+5/mt) from last week.
FCA Antwerp HDPE film prices were assessed at the Euro 1170-1210/mt levels, a week on week gain of Euro (+10/mt) while FCA Antwerp HDPE BM prices were assessed at the Euro 1170-1200/mt levels, a rise of Euro (+10/mt) from the previous week. Meanwhile, FCA Antwerp HDPE injection prices were assessed at the Euro 1150-1180/mt levels, higher by Euro (+10/mt) from last week.
Ethylene spot prices on Thursday were assessed at the Euro 800-810/mt FD North West Europe levels, up Euro (+10/mt) from last week.
European ethylene feedstock contract price for August 2024 settled at the Euro 1240/MT FD North West Europe levels. This price represents a rise of Euro (+20/mt) from its July 2024 settlement levels.
