This week, LDPE prices declined sharply in the European region.
An industry source informed a Polymerupdate team member, “Prices trended lower in line with a bearish market sentiment. Sellers in Europe were scouting various routes to offload material and reduce their stockpiles with the approaching year end.”
The source added, ”Though a few domestic producers had ceased orders for fresh LDPE stocks, market participants stated that it would hardly impact current market dynamics as demand was depressed and supply remained ample."
In the spot markets, LDPE prices were assessed at the Euro 955-965/mt FD Northwest Europe mark, a plunge of Euro (-70/mt) from last week.
In the contract markets, General Purpose LDPE grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1660-1655/mt FD NWE Germany and FD NWE Italy levels, both lower sharply by Euro (-50/mt) from the previous week. LDPE General Purpose grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1660-1665/mt FD NWE France levels, a tumble of Euro (-50/mt) from the previous week. Meanwhile, LDPE grade prices were assessed at the GBP 1430-1435/mt FD NWE UK levels, a decline of GBP (-35/mt) from last week.
FCA Antwerp LDPE General Purpose film prices were assessed at the Euro 940-960/mt levels, a steep week on week drop of Euro (-70/mt)
Ethylene spot prices on Thursday were assessed at the Euro 680-690/mt FD North West Europe levels, a rise of Euro (+10/mt) from last week.
Feedstock ethylene contract price for December 2023 settled at the Euro 1185/MT FD North West Europe levels. This price represents a fall of Euro 30/MT from its November 2023 settlement levels.
