High-density polyethylene (HDPE) prices journey northward in Europe

This week, HDPE prices marched higher in the European region.

A European industry source while requesting to remain unidentified informed a Polymerupdate team member, “Prices gained on the back of limited import offers from the Middle East. The bullish pricing undertone was also the result of an increase in feedstock ethylene contract values for October 2023.”

The source added, “However, the overall regional demand situation has remained persistently bearish.”

In the spot markets, HDPE injection grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1115-1125/mt FD North West Europe levels, an increase of Euro (+30/mt) from last week. HDPE film grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1145-1155/mt FD North West Europe levels, while HDPE BM grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1135-1145/mt FD North West Europe levels, both gained by Euro (+30/mt) from the previous week.

In the contract markets, HDPE film grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1505-1510/mt FD NWE Germany and FD NWE Italy levels, both week on week up Euro (+10/mt). HDPE film grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1505-1510/mt FD NWE France levels, a gain of Euro (+10/mt) from last week. Meanwhile, HDPE film grade prices were assessed at the GBP 1300-1305/mt FD NWE UK levels, higher by GBP (+10/mt) from the previous week.

In the contract markets, HDPE BM grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1480-1485/mt FD NWE Germany and FD NWE Italy levels, both trending higher by Euro (+10/mt) from the previous week. HDPE BM grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1480-1485/mt FD NWE France levels, a week on week gain of Euro (+10/mt). Meanwhile, HDPE BM grade prices were assessed at the GBP 1280-1285/mt FD NWE UK levels, up GBP (+10/mt) from last week.

In the contract markets, HDPE injection grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1435-1440/mt FD NWE Germany and FD NWE Italy levels, both week on week gained by Euro (+10/mt). HDPE injection grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1435-1440/mt FD NWE France levels, up Euro (+10/mt) from the previous week. Meanwhile, HDPE injection grade prices were assessed at the GBP 1240-1245/mt FD NWE UK levels, a rise of GBP (+10/mt) from last week.

FCA Antwerp HDPE film prices were assessed at the Euro 1120-1160/mt levels, a week on week gain of Euro (+20/mt). FCA Antwerp HDPE injection prices were assessed at the Euro 1090-1120/mt levels, while FCA Antwerp HDPE BM prices were assessed at the Euro 1110-1140/mt levels, a rise of Euro (+20/mt) from the previous week.

Ethylene spot prices on Thursday were assessed at the Euro 800-810/mt FD North West Europe levels, a week on week decline of Euro (-25/mt).

Feedstock ethylene contract price for October 2023 settled at the Euro 1260/MT FD North West Europe levels. This price represents a sharp gain of Euro 65/mt from its September 2023 settlement levels.
