Ethylene prices surge in Asia

Petrochemical industry | 27 Feb 2021 08:30 IST | Polymerupdate.com

This week, ethylene prices galloped sharply higher across the Asian regions. Prices spiked, mainly on account of bullish upstream crude and naphtha values, coupled with persistent constrained regional product availability.

Reports of stronger demand trends in the region and firmer downstream PE pricing trends further supported the steep price gain in Asia.

CFR North East Asia ethylene prices were assessed at the USD 1010-1015/mt levels, while CFR South East Asia prices were assessed at the USD 985-990/mt levels, both spiked by USD 150/mt from last week.

In plant news, Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical has taken off-stream its No. 1 Naphtha cracker in Nanjing, on February 21, 2021, for a maintenance turnaround. Located at Nanjing in Jiangsu province of China, the No. 1 cracker has an ethylene production capacity of 450,000 mt/year and a propylene production capacity of 240,000 mt/year.
