Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) prices drop in parts of Asia

This week, LLDPE prices declined in parts of the Asian region.

An industry source in Asia on condition of anonymity informed a Polymerupdate team member, "Weaker upstream energy and bearish ethylene feedstock values coupled with subdued regional demand trends emerged as key factors weighing negatively on prices. Buying activity in China remained muted with traders showing lack of interest in purchasing dollar-denominated commodities with the weakening of the Yuan."

The source added, "The fall in LLDPE prices was further triggered by weaker LLDPE futures on the Dalian Commodity Exchange in China."

In Far East Asia, LLDPE prices were assessed at the USD 920-960/mt CFR levels, down USD (-10/mt) from the previous week.

In China, a Middle Eastern producer has offered its LLDPE film grades at the USD 960/mt CFR levels for shipment in September 2022. A Saudi Arabian producer has offered its LLDPE film grades at the USD 930/mt CFR levels for shipment in September 2022.

In South East Asia, LLDPE prices were assessed at the USD 990-1030/mt CFR levels, a fall of USD (-10/mt) from the previous week.

In Vietnam, a Middle Eastern producer has offered its LLDPE film grades at the USD 990/mt CFR levels for shipment in September 2022. A Saudi Arabian producer has offered its LLDPE film grades at the USD 1030/mt CFR levels for shipment in September 2022.

In Pakistan, LLDPE prices were assessed at the USD 1100-1150/mt CFR levels, a week on week sharp drop of USD (-40/mt).

In Sri Lanka, LLDPE prices were assessed at the USD 1170-1220/mt CFR levels, a fall of USD (-20/mt) from the previous week.

In Sri Lanka, a Middle Eastern producer has offered its LLDPE film grades at the USD 1240/mt CFR levels for shipment in September 2022. A Saudi Arabian producer has offered its LLDPE film grades at the USD 1200/mt CFR levels for shipment in September 2022.

Meanwhile in India, LLDPE prices were assessed at the USD 1120-1170/mt CFR levels, unchanged from the previous week.

In the open market of India, market participants are heard to have adopted a wait-and-watch approach in anticipation of a rise in prices with state-run gas major GAIL (INDIA) Ltd having reduced run rates at its plant on account of feedstock gas shortage.

In Bangladesh, LLDPE prices were assessed stable at the USD 1130-1170/mt levels.

Feedstock ethylene prices on Tuesday were assessed at the USD 815-825/mt CFR North East Asia levels while CFR South East Asia ethylene prices were assessed at the USD 915-925/mt levels, both week on week sharply lower by USD (-60/mt).
