Propylene prices edge lower in Asia on Wednesday

On Wednesday, propylene prices were assessed lower in Asia. The price fall was supported by weaker upstream naphtha values and softer regional demand trends.

FOB Korea propylene prices were down at the USD 1075-1080/mt levels, a drop of USD (-10/mt) from Tuesday's assessed levels.

CFR China propylene prices were assessed lower at the USD 1085-1090/mt levels, a day on day fall of USD (-10/mt).

In plant news, LG Chemical has shut its cracker on March 29, 2021 owing to technical issues. The cracker is likely to remain shut for around 8-10 days. Located at Daesan, South Korea, the cracker has an ethylene production capacity of 230,000 mt/year and propylene capacity of 100,000 mt/year.

In other plant news, Sadara Chemical, has undertaken an unplanned shutdown at its cracker, last week, owing to technical issues. Located at Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia, the cracker has an ethylene capacity of 1.5 million mt/year and a propylene capacity of 400,000 mt/year.
